End of a Year...
The year is ending... It is quite surprising to see another year go by so quickly! What made this year significant to me?
I have finally decided on a solid Masters program. I changed my major from IT to Communication Studies this fall. I have started to enjoy the program. The grades came in very good after the finals which reinforced my liking for the program even more.
This program also gave me the opportunity to meet some wonderful people. One of them have become a blessing for me. May be one day, I will tell her how much she really means to me, if she already does not know that. I feel she has made all my greivances for losing academic years go away... if I had not lost those semesters because of transferring from a different school and programs here, then I probably wouldn't have met her! She has been a blessing. I wish my family could meet her sometime.
For the first time ever in the US, I have been to a Church service for my friend's (J.Butler) mom and her funeral. I have also attended a Thanksgiving dinner with an Amerian friend (B.Kettermen). I have also attended my first ever American wedding (Chandu got married to F).
Starting from 2002, we have seen an illiterate and ignorant president lead America to a war that almost the entire world was against to begin with. President Bush has shown us how monsters like Adolf Hitler were like as human beings. Tens of thousands have died so far and more will die in the future. For what? How much power does he need?
Looking back home, the Nizami-Khaleda government has almost finished their task of converting Bangladesh into a fundamentalist country. Secularism seems to be a distant dream and empty ideology only now. It has become hard to believe what the founding fathers had achieved and what we have lost. The public schools and especially the universities are being systematically corrupted and ruined. They are on the verge of shut down now. Jamaat and BNP has taken us 50 years behind in their four-year 'rule.'
Well, I would like to dream on still. We have our pride of 1971 -our War of Independence. We should all look at that and remind ourselves that we have kicked some Pakistani a$$ before and we can do it again if we have to.
